As I near the end of my time at Emmanuel (April 11th is my last day), I'm grieving the loss of the community - all my colleagues, all the students, the friendships I've made, the stories I've been a part of, the satisfaction of knowing that you're making a difference in someone's life (at least you hope you are). But one thing I've come to realize is that when I walk out the doors on April 11, I will be leaving my home behind. The place of shelter, of familiarity, of friends and family. It has been almost 9 years since I applied to be a student at Emmanuel with plans on going for a number of months before that. The time has been full of joy, pain, excitement, sorrow, and more. Just go through the archives of this
Over the past few months, I've had some help in realizing that I spend way too much time in my head. I'm not sure how to solve that, but I hope that as I start leaving the mud on April 12, I will be able to define a good strategy to help with that.
It's funny how some of the feelings of sorrow, grief, and pain keep coming back as different events happen. I'm down to 7 days of work left and there's probably much more to come.
Although there's still residual bitterness remaining within me and probably will be for a while yet, I'll miss the place that has become my home.
For now, I continue to walk down the path that is set before me and hope to enjoy the new adventures that await.
