mercantalism

Well, this finally came back to get me.

27 months, 1400 boats later, the merchants have finally sailed.

sick = suck

So I'm sick. And I have been some semblance of it since Thursday sometime. I could be petty and blame the time that I've spent with my supervisor's last week who have both been sick, but I wont go there.

It's not a bad sick, just annoying with the occasional headache and continuous hot flashes and shivers (no, I'm not a female in her late 40's) with a cough every now and then. Not bad enough to warrant bed-rest, but still enough to keep me home from work this morning. Sigh. I was in bed at 11 last night although couldn't fall asleep until closer to 2. I even tried my old get-to-sleep fallback of moving to the floor, but that wasn't any good. I think I also had some sort of hallucination of my dresser requiring me to give it a toonie, but that may have been a dream. Either way, I'm not feeling right.

So, the update on the past week. We've gone from the apartment looking empty and desolate to it looking fairly well-used and full. Moving's expensive. Very expensive. I ended up buying a new desk (finally) that I can actually spread out on and seems more appropriately sized for me. I've had a Mikael Ikea desk for 5 years now (3 on Res, sold it, 2 post-res because it was such a good desk). But alas, I need more space to be able to do things properly, and now I can have my laptop and desktop side by side without having to keep shifting around or keep a tote beside my desk.

So, here's a few pictures of the place furnished:

(Yes, Matt, it's the same as yours. Staples had a good deal on this week where you got the matching file cart for free when you purchased the desk, that and I had a gift card to use, meant I ended up spending about half of what it was worth.)

Now hopefully I can get better so I can get out of this apartment... which would be nice.

Oh, and note the curtains rather than bedsheets on the windows. I figured that was a nice addition.

Yes.

I haven't had a chance to go out and take pictures of it in a nice environment. Maybe this weekend. Until then, enjoy the picture the dealer took.

mupdate... go

Here's what's happened since last week:

1. Bought a car. It's driving great, except for the power steering belt coming off on Wednesday. The dealership fixed it for free. That was a fun day... or something.

2. Moved. We moved from Waterloo where there were small digs not really worth the price to large digs in Kitchener that is very much worth the money. A few people helped with the move, and to them, thanks. If you didn't help / couldn't help, I don't think any less of you and still appreciate you the same or even more than I did before.

The move went well, efficiently, and quickly. Approximately 2 hours loading up in Waterloo (everything fit into a 16 foot cube van) and then approximately 45 minutes unloading in Kitchener [not Waterloo]. Everything goes quicker when you have an elevator.

About the new digs:

2 bedroom
2 bathroom
balcony
large living / dining room
Kitchen
Ensuite Storage / laundry room (dryer's currently a spinner / warmer, had to go to the laundromat to finish up 3 loads tonight)

I'm still not unpacked remotely... my bed is made, and part of my room, but otherwise, no so much. By the end of the week, I think.

We have a parking stall in the parking garage, and I think the door to the garage hates me. If I don't take my car through it, it'll be a miracle.

3. Curling is good fun. This is how it's done. We went last night and had fun. It was worth the reschedule. I was on my B- game. Not making every shot, but doing a whole lot better than I have in the past.

As for everything else, life continues, and I'll be walking to work tomorrow rather than the driving that's become standard for me over the past 11 months. It'll be nice.

Out.

T.
