and ... it works

That's right, I got the video card today and it makes things work like a dream.

Too bad I've spent more fixing / upgrading my computer than I originally bought it for now...

I'll never get a win.

continuing

Well, the technology curse continues. I purchased a game on the weekend thinking that it would work on my computer, but of course, it crashes my video card on my desktop and is really choppy on the laptop.

So, new video card is on the way... we'll see how this goes over.

Sigh.

I think I give up on technology.

42

Although 42 is the answer to life, the universe, and everything, it is where my pseudo pop fast ends. I was forced into having gingerale tonight due to the restaurant's policy of only fountain drinks in combos. Le sigh.

I only drank 1/3 of the glass though and I felt really disgusted after doing so, if that makes it any better.

But who says I need to stop now? I'll just start again and see how long I can go. Pop's an expensive habit anyways. Milk or water's where it's at.

feb 14

It's February 14. A few things come to mind when I think of Feb. 14th:

1. Valentine's Day - buy your girlfriend / fiancé / wife / hired prostitute for the evening some flowers that are grossly overpriced, whereas if you would wait until the 15th, the price drops drastically.
2. Singles Awareness Day - because all those who are currently in a relationship are either getting small gifts, giving small gifts, or going out on hot dates, it becomes very obvious that those of us without that "special someone" in our lives are lacking. Depression / deep thought about the existentialism of man ensues.
3. Farm Animal Day - someone, someday thought that we don't appreciate those animals that keep us fed enough, so thus Farm Animal day was born. This also helps those who would normally be upset on this day due to reasons stated above regain the ability to find joy because we're celebrating with the animals that are going to slaughter to feed us that evening.
4. Weezer Day - That's right, today marks 15 years since the band Weezer first formed. Celebrate with flying W's and dressing like Buddy Holly.
5. The cost for Wildcats With Brooms II goes up to $40. That's right. Those who didn't register by yesterday are paying $5.00 more for the curling bonspiel in March. Sadness ensues... but it will be followed by joy when they register and come out to curl!

That is all.

recount

The day began like many others in recent memory. I woke up to the sounds of CBC radio 1 out of Toronto. Upon wiping the sleep out of my eyes and the cold rush to turn off the alarm 15 minutes later, I get up to have a shower. When I turn on my light, I realize that, much like the other days over the past few months, my sheets / blankets were neat on my bed, but they had been turned 90 degrees. Go figure.

After showering and dressing, I get my coat and shoes on ready for the ride out to Breslau. Dan and Faith have a temp car while the Shadow's gone in for repair, so it was the first odd thing about the day. The 10 minute drive made me feel queasy - darn motion sickness and lack of food in my stomach merged together to make me very excited to set my feet on solid ground. Today, I ran sound at church. Which, I'm still slowly getting used to the system that is there (each system has it's little nuances that throw me off - like DSGC - the monitors are really awkward... EBC's alternate 1/4 inch inputs are messed up and never make any sense, etc.) so when I spent 5 minutes trying to figure out that the reason the CD player wasn't making any sound was because the sound board wasn't on. And then the reason that the monitors weren't making any noise was because they were turned off on the board, and the list continues.

The rest of the service was really messed up. The music and sermon was great as well as the various other aspects of it, however the technical stuff that was under my control wasn't going very well. All wireless stuff messed up due to one reason or another. Then a lady passed out in the service and 911 needed to be called. She walked out of the sanctuary moments later smiling and laughing.

My attempt at writing a well crafted story about today seems to have fumbled into this, so I'll just continue with my day watching random tv shows and surfing the 'Net.

Just so you know, don't watch National Geographic channel today. I don't really need to know how chimpanzees find pleasure. ...

Sigh. I think I still need a life. Or friends. Or both. Probably both. Definitely both.

PS. 35 days.

salt

There is a monster lurking in the shadows. It has set itself up so it looks pure, but it is an ever-present danger, just waiting for the perfect moment to pounce. It's salt. You may think I've gone mad, but trust me, it is more deadly than the sword.

1. When spread on dirt, nothing grows. Why? I don't know, but it's a great reason to not like it.
2. It can ruin perfectly good snow. How? It turns the snow to this brown slush that - when it's still cold - makes walking on the sidewalk even harder than if you were to walk on a layer of packed snow.
3. Did you ever see that Kids in the Hall sketch where the one guy somehow ended up dumping salt in his eye every single day of the conference he was at? Never, I repeat, NEVER put salt in your eye.
4. Look at the ocean. It's water, which supposedly is good for you. BUT NO!!! It has salt in it, meaning that it is not good for you to drink. That's right. Salt Water isn't good to drink. This means that a vast quantity of the earth's water is not good to drink. And even more, this salt water makes people float in the Dead Sea. Like they're dead. How many times have lifeguards run out to save the person they saw doing the dead man's float only to find out that they were alive and trying to get a tan? That's right, it's salt fault for those lost-time false calls.
5. Look at the term Assault. It may look like there's nothing wrong with it, but if you convince yourself that the u is in there only to satisfy Canadian spelling rules, you get Assalt. Get rid of the first two letters and there is Salt. Salt is trying to beat you up.

There are many more reasons why salt is the biggest menace to hit today's society in a long time - the list could go on forever...

28 days

It's been 4 weeks tomorrow since I've had a pop.

Ok, I'm done chronicling my triumph over the canned beast now.

---

In other news, I was really tired this afternoon, so I had a nap on the couch. Then I came upstairs and had another nap on my bed. They felt like a long time both times, but it was only a total of 1.5 hours-ish.

I saw on the Documentary channel part of a documentary about Paul Bellini. Not sure how many people remember him, but he was a stand in on Kids in the Hall a few times - you too can touch Paul Bellini. It was about him growing up in Timmins, being gay, and trying to meet Shania Twain when she was in town. No point as far as I could see.

I think that's all for now.

Out.
